Ministry Assistant to WitnessWork

You used Ministry Assistant on Android and now you want WitnessWork on iPhone. This page merges both backups and builds a restore file.

Your files never leave this device. Conversion runs in the browser — nothing is sent to the internet.

Follow this order

1

On Android: Ministry Assistant backup

Ministry Assistant icon

Open Ministry Assistant. In the menu, look for backup (not “export to text”).

  1. Save to Google Drive (easiest) or send by email.
  2. Wait until it finishes. The file should be a .mabackup.

Avoid “device storage”: Android hides that folder and you only get it with a cable. Also skip export to text — that .txt file does not include the real hours.

2

Download the file from Drive (or email)

On your phone or computer, open Google Drive, find the backup, and download the .mabackup to an easy place (Downloads, for example).

3

On iPhone: set up WitnessWork and make a backup

WitnessWork icon
  1. If you do not use the app yet: install WitnessWork and finish the first setup (pioneer, publisher, language… enough to match how you serve).
  2. If you already use WitnessWork and already logged hours: do not delete anything. Just back up what is already in the app.
  3. Open the menu → Backup and restore Create backup.
  4. Save it in the iPhone Files app, somewhere easy to find.

You do not lose hours or records already in Witness Work. This page does a merge: it joins Ministry Assistant data with the current iPhone backup. Only days that were not already there are added.

Without the WitnessWork JSON, migration creates a generic publisher and skips your setup.

4

Here: join the two files

Pick both backups and tap the button. The page builds a new file to restore in WitnessWork — without erasing what you already had on iPhone, only adding the Android data.

Tap or drop the .mabackup

This is the file from step 1. The name looks like MABackup-… .mabackup

Tap or drop the backup JSON

This is the file from step 3. Without it, your iPhone profile is not kept.

When it finishes, the file goes to Downloads. The summary appears here.

Restore in WitnessWork

WitnessWork icon

How you restore depends on where you used this page:

If you did it on iPhone

In WitnessWork: menu → Backup and restore → Restore from a backup → choose the file this page downloaded (usually in Downloads).

If you did it on a computer

Send the generated file to yourself on WhatsApp. On iPhone: open the file in WhatsApp → Share → More Save to Files → an easy folder (Downloads). Then restore that backup in WitnessWork as above.

Check a month you remember (field hours and LDC/Bethel). If something looks wrong, keep the old Drive backup and the WitnessWork JSON.

What this tool does

It reads the gzip/Smile Ministry Assistant backup, extracts hours (field and LDC/Bethel), contacts and visits, and builds JSON in the WitnessWork format. If you also upload the current iPhone backup, your profile and hours already logged are kept.

Frequently Asked Questions

Want to migrate to another app, not WitnessWork?

If you use Ministry Assistant on Android and prefer a different iPhone app (not WitnessWork), get in touch. Send a backup of the app you are using on iPhone. This is not a promise: if it is possible, we will try to build the conversion and publish it for free, like this one.
